Don’t Fool Yourself.
If you want to be a bringer of peace, it makes sense to start with those at home. If you can’t start at home, don’t delude yourself that you are a great giver. Don’t be like the carpenter who never finishes his own home. Or like many missionaries who have the nerve to go to the far reaches of the earth to push their beliefs to people that never even asked for spiritual lessons. Many times, if you look at the missionaries personal lives you will see that they are not at all happy, flourishing individuals. They are often deeply ill fanatics. Think of the hypocrisy of it all. A man goes to teach other’s about the joys of life, but his own wife and children are not happy. In reality, he is a failed man, a serious man that can’t receive from life. So he substitutes religion for a genuine open heart. He pushes the coping devices that he uses to overcome his own failure.
If you live in states of joy, laughter, love, and peace, then everyone around you benefits. How else will you help others. Certainly not by giving them rules and regulations, or fear based doctrines that threaten everlasting punishment in hell if you don’t live as is expected.
Start at home with your wife, husband, children and pets, and then progressively go outward in circles around you.
Even the smallest thing helps, such as smiling at someone and connecting with them, or scratching a dogs belly.
Life always provides the circumstance to help. If one has an open heart, they don’t have to strain to find opportunity to help. The opportunities will come to you. All you have to do is have the presence to seize the opportunity.
